Failures
Throughout my career, I have tried to build my own products, with the hope of them becoming sustainable businesses. Some ideas have been good, some not so good. Sometimes I’ve done it alone, sometimes in small teams. Regardless, all of these tries have failed. But they have all taught me something, and I hold them dear. I will keep on trying out new ideas for products and one day one might work but for now, here is my list of failures.
2010
Untitled
Art Portfolio
Platform
Idea
Portfolio platform and marketplace for artists, allowing them to showcase and sell their art. There was also an added subscription service for customers to stream these artworks on to screens in their office spaces or homes.
Reason for failing
We realized that we were not married to the idea. We were not interested enough in the problem we were trying to solve.
2011
Untitled Taxi App
Idea
Instead of calling a specific taxi company to book a taxi we wanted to create a central marketplace in your phone where you can access all the taxi companies and book straight from the app.
Reason for failing
Failed to sell the idea to taxi companies. Also Uber came to Sweden shortly after.
2012
Snorkl
Idea
Digital flea market. Buy and sell things in your neighborhood. Save time and effort because things are close by. Communicate with buyer/seller through the app and see on a map where the product exists.
Reason for failing
At this time one team member lived in Australia, one in Hawaii and one in Sweden. We failed to make it work while working remotely and in different time-zones.
2013
Push
Idea
An app that allows you to sync your contact information with your contacts address books. If you change your phone number or get a new email address, your contacts will automatically have them saved in their address book. Always have your contacts latest contact information.
Reason for failing
Failed to gather a team which could help me build it.
2014
Beat
Idea
A platform where users can post challenges and have their friends and other users trying to beat them. For example, post a video of yourself doing 10 push-ups and see others videos of them trying to do more.
Reason for failing
Failed to find time to work on it due to day job and other commitments. Decided to stop the project.
2015
Koloni
Idea
Digital platform for your home. Communicate with your neighbors, get information about your local area, choose electricity and internet providers, book the laundry room, etc.
Reason for failing
The only developer left the project. We failed to replace him.
